Canadians to Honor American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca with Canadian Peace Award.

American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca will be awarded a Canadian Peace Award for the Windsor Peace Stone of the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM) [1] during their visit to Windsor next month, according to a Canadian press release. The Windsor Peace Stone is slated to be the cornerstone of the coast-to-coast 'Trans Canadian Peace Trail”.

The Jakupca's will be the first Americans to receive the honor, which was announced by a coalition of Canadian peace organizations on Monday, August 12, 2013. The Canadian Award is a CRISTAL d'ALBRET PAX Peace Plate by GILBERT POILLERAT. The 9" Peace plate is very heavy crystal glass with beautiful molded detailing. It's of a dove, holding an olive branch surrounded by children and is a fitting testament to the mission of the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM).  It comes in a cloth lined presentation box with Plaque of Remembrance.

"David and Renate Jakupca are true friends of the people of Canada, and they have been since the beginning of the formation of The International Center for Environmental Arts in 1987,” Sharon Demming, spokeswoman of the Peace Coalition, stated in the release. Canadian Rick Coranado of Great lakes United and the Clean Water Alliance presented ICEA with an environmental award in 1992 for the exhibit, 'Endangered Spaces' that first addressed the concerns about the dangers of over development of the Great Lakes shoreline.

“As Founders of ICEA and American Cultural Ambassadors,  David and Renate Jakupca have stood with Canadians in times of crisis and peace," she continued. "During their time as Ambassadors they have made a unique contribution to the Canadians, both through further strengthening the strategic cooperation between the countries and through the joint development of environment and technology to promote a sustainable culture of peace for all Living Things.”

The statement went on to praise the Jakupca's as a “symbol of democratic values” who “exemplifies the spirit of iceality and opportunity for all living things to live in a peaceful global society.”

The award also follows Jakupca's receiving the prestigious 'Freedom Award' by the American Nationalities Movement Organization in 2012.

The Jakupca's will receive the award as part of the dedication of the Windsor Peace Stone located for the 2013 International Children's Games in Windsor-Essex, located at the new 77 million Dollar Windsor Aquatic Center.

[1] - Provenance of the subject sculpture places its conception at Germany's World's Fair, EXPO 2000's 'Culture on the Move' segment.  American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca addressed the 140 Nation Assembly of the concept for a permanent universal symbol of renewal and peace on earth for all living inhabitants through the 'Theory of Iceality on Environmental Arts'. This Symbol of Living Peace was the subject sculpture.  This project was initiated in cooperation with the United Nations 2000 Culture of Peace Program and organized in support of the UN Decade of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.   http://www.theicea.com/page5

Windsor Peace Stone of the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM)

Message from the City of Windsor
Mayor Francis As residents of Windsor, we stand together proudly as your hosts for the 2013 International Children's Games. Windsor is one of the most diverse communities in Canada, home to 100 different heritages from around the globe. Your participation at the ICG enriches our diversity of traditions, as we couldn't be happier that you've chosen to visit.

Three years ago, we began our ICG journey with only a dream, in a small hotel in Athens, Greece. Our vision, to welcome the world to Windsor, the community we know and love, was in its infancy. Fourteen of Windsor's youth ambassadors joined me to tell the world why our hometown was the next home for ICG.

From that fateful day, we've been immersed in the wonder, the amazement, the camaraderie, and the pride of these games. Windsor has now fielded teams in three Summer Games and one Winter Games.

Over the six days of competition, you'll experience the premier sports facilities that our community has to offer. You'll enjoy the near-urban wilderness charm of Mic Mac Park, the McHugh Soccer Park next to the Ganatchio Trail, and, most visibly, the pride of our community, the new Family Aquatic Complex. We know that you'll enjoy it, and will be the lasting legacy of these games.

While you're here, enjoy all that our city and region have to offer. We're one mile across the Detroit River from our good neighbours in the City of Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. We're a single day of travel from half of the population of the entire continent. We have an incredible assortment of tourism services and cultural attractions with the city and in its backyard.

Within 1,200 volunteers support this event who we cannot thank enough for their service, ICG athletes and out-of-town visitors will get a worry-free introduction to our community. Thank you!

Message from the County of Essex
Warden Bain On behalf of Essex County Council ad the seven local Essex County municipalities, I welcome all athletes and coaches, visitors and volunteers to the 2013 International Children's Games.

Essex County is so very proud to collaborate with the City of Windsor in hosting this year's Games.

Determination and commitment are the hallmarks of these Games. Be it athletes in training to deliver their best possible performances, to the local organizing team planning and coordinating the athletic and entertainment events, to the volunteers preparing to lend a hand to ensure everything runs smoothly, all involved are eager to make the 2013 Games the most successful to date.

The rich cultural diversity of our region will no doubt make one and all feel right at home, whether you are visiting for the first time or are a lifelong resident.

Unparalleled hospitality is certain to greet you. I know the experience of the Games is one that will remain with you for years to come.

There are friendships to be developed, relationships to be forged and memories to be created as the world comes to Windsor-Essex.

We are honoured to be your host and look forward to offering an unforgettable celebration of sport and camaraderie. Best wishes to all athletes, visitors, and participants.

Swimmers Feel Need for Speed at Windsor's "Awesome" New Pool
Matthew Laschuk from the Windsor Essex Swim Team competes in the first swim meet at the Family Aquatic Complex (JASON KRYK/The Windsor Star)
(Source: The Windsor Star) No sooner had her slim, torpedo-shaped body hit the water for the first time inside Windsor's new Family Aquatic Complex than competitive swimmer Leili Tilvaldyeva knew she was lapping toward a personal best. "It's a fast pool ... the water just carries you through," said the 16-year-old competitor with the Windsor Essex Swim Team. "There will be records here," said Tilvaldyeva.

There appeared little doubt of the record-breaking potential among the athletes granted first access Thursday to the natatorium, the competitive portion of the city's new $78-million aquatic facility. Two local swim clubs held an inaugural meet to test the waters ahead of the International Children's Games in two weeks. Read more.
