For many years, David and Renate Jakupca's mission has been to promote a culture of lasting peace among all living beings. Together they founded the International Center For Environmental Arts (Icea) in Cleveland, Ohio in 1987 to develop environmental arts. Their revolutionary method is recognized globally as support for research, information sharing and sustainable actions for a culture of peace. Among the achievements of the couple of artists include the construction of an ecological dwelling and an ecomuseum in Berea, the creation of the world's children peace monument and the great American peace trail.

  The historic ARK in Berea, home of the sustainable global Environmental Arts Movement,  helped inaugurate the green building trend that is now sweeping America.  In 2000, mainly because of their heightened talent to match ability with vision, David and Renate were the ideal avant-guides to help lead the Nation into the next Millennium when they spent six months in Europe at EXPO2000, the World's Fair in Hanover, Germany as American Cultural Ambassadors.

Over the years, ICEA has gained a reputation for excellence based upon a unique library of specialized, current information on global importance and a wide range of imaginative programming and collaborations with other organizations to meet the needs of a broad constituency. With affiliates across the globe, the ICEA supports research, information sharing and effective action promoting a sustainable culture of Peace.

ICEA is a place where people are encouraged to develop their own unique individual skills and talents for themselves, their community, nation and the world. The ARK in Berea Museum a member in good standing with the Northeastern Ohio Inter-Museum Council.

Founded in 1942, The Northeastern Ohio Inter-Museum Council serves over 140 institutional members in Cuyahoga and six adjacent counties. Members range from large, internationally renowned museums in major urban centers to metro parks, nature facilities and small local history museums spread across parts of the Western Reserve.

The purpose of this organization is to enable its members to preserve history and works of art, to advance science and natural history, or to study and display works of art, minerals, animal, and plant life. NEOIMC members work together to find solutions to their shared concerns in the fields of finance, legislation, public relations, education, personnel and related fields, and do what is necessary and proper to carry out the purposes for which individual member organizations were created.

The Council provides a group forum for airing common goals and issues; sponsors educational workshops for museum staff and volunteers; hosts general meetings at member museums.

As the Spititual Father of the Envirionmental Art Movement, David Jakupca was an innovative artist who took the world by storm as American Cultural Ambassador, Universal Peace Ambassador,
Founder of the International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA)

    This is due primarily to his pioneer work on The 'Theory of Iceality' on Environmental Arts:which is a practical study of the aesthetics of the relationship between Humans and their Environment through Arts and Culture, ultimately promoting an effective sustainable  global Culture of Peace between All Living Things ~ Human, Plant and Animal Kingdoms. By incorporating the rights of flora and fauna in a "Universal Peace Equation" is the first major change in achieving a sustainable Peace on Earth in over 2000 Years.

David and Renate Jakupca are also responsible for enlightening the art community to the new genre of social activist Environmental Art when they founded the International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA) in 1987 at the historic ARK in Berea , Ohio.  ICEA was organized into three divisions:  Environmental, Humanities, Arts and Culture, this acts as an umbrella organization of affiliated groups  that support related agendas with the idea of creating a prototype NGO that is easily replicated in other communities, cities, states and countries.  As the first professional art organization to be solely dedicated  to this endeavor, this has made ICEA to be the leading force in the Environmental arts and a force for socially responsible activity.

I am extremely grateful to Mr. Craig Arnold, Eaton Company Chairman, for donating and the and the Ohio German-American Business Association for all of the work erecting the statue at the ARK in Berea Museum.

According to Jakupca, beginning with ICEA, the Environmental Arts Genre has grown exponentially and has over the past decades  spawned a wide variety of very similar phrases and art terms such as; eco art, land art, ecoventions, natural art, green art, outdoor art, social activity, earth art, recycled art, sustainable art, ecodedsign, etc. These can be all be considered sub-categories under the umbrella of the main Environmental Art Genre. While Jakupca's art is presented in some of the most prestigious museums across the country, none houses more than the ARK in Berea, Ohio.

HUGGS FOR ALL the WORLDS CHILDREN THIS MOTHERS DAY

I can't help but think about Mother's Day a little differently this year.  My family will be doing the usual traditions.  I will be celebrating with All the Worlds Children, hopefully with a few quiet moments (and no world wars).

So many moms will get to enjoy the day with their kids, but for some, this will be their first Mother's Day without their child.  Parents like those who lost children at Chardon and the Parkland, Florida school shootings, in the tragic bus crash of the Humboldt Broncos Hockey team in Canada, or to childhood cancer and the countless others who have died this year.   All moms, whether their kids go to school, play sports, or have been impacted by a family illness, can relate to fears of losing a loved one.

 So this Mother's Day, while it's a happy time, take a moment to think about the others who won't be celebrating, but will instead be mourning.  If you know someone personally who is grieving, send them a note or gift - something small in recognition of their loss.  Or consider donating to a cause this year, such as building the National Coast-to-Coast 'Great American Peace Trail' to Stem the Violence in America's Youth and Unite America.

This year as always, we hope to bring families together and help them enjoy everything Iceality has to offer, from providing a calendar of events for the littlest ones to your older  crew, or in our final call for a sustainable global culture of peace for all living things!

The clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”  Once a major tradition in Europe, this celebration fell on the fourth Sunday in Lent and was originally seen as a time when the faithful would return to their “mother church”—the main church in the vicinity of their home—for a special service.

 

Over time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a more public holiday, and children would present their mothers with flowers and other tokens of appreciation. The American incarnation of Mother’s Day as celebrated in the United States date back to the 19th century. In the years before the Civil War, Ann Reeves Jarvis of West Virginia helped start “Mothers’ Day Work Clubs” to teach local women how to properly care for their children.



These clubs later became a unifying Mother’s Day peace force in the region of the country still divided over the Civil War. In 1868 Jarvis organized “Mothers’ Friendship Day,” at which mothers gathered with former Union and Confederate soldiers to promote reconciliation by Anna Jarvis in 1908 and Mother’s Day became an official U.S. holiday in 1914.

At times, Mother’s Day has also been a date for launching political or feminist causes. In 1968 Coretta Scott King, wife of Martin Luther King Jr., used Mother’s Day to host a march in support of underprivileged women and children. For 2018 I think it would be a good time to use the holiday as a time to highlight the need for equal rights for All the Worlds Children as promoted by the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM).



So, this Mother's Day, remember meeting those very special moms who gave you encouragement to the ways they manage motherhood and make things a little easier,
even when times are tough.

In the spirit of sharing love, try to focus on the special people and women in your life
who believe in making the world a better place for each other and all the Worlds Children.

This Mothers Day, hugg them all extra tight and be hopeful for the good that is to come to them this Year.
