Throughout history, various movements in Art have taken place:

Impressionism, Modernism, Abstract Art, Photo-Realists to name a few.
Recently Pop Art debuted in the 1960’s and now at the beginning of the 21st Century, a socially aware artist with a vision is making a difference in art history.
The pioneer artist of this new form of art, David Jakupca, calls this type of
expression "Environmental Art" and is universally acknowledged as
the "Father of the Environmental Art" movement.
He is also the founder of the: International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA)
and the "teheory of Iceality on Environmental Arts which is exclusively devoted
to environmental and humanitarian concerns facing Mankind in the 21st Century.

Art Critic and Editor, Priscilla Cinadr, has said in the Millennium Edition
of WHO’S WHO that "....David’s art work is original, creative and inspiring
though sometimes controversial."
In 1997 Environmental Art and (ICEA) was recognized by the National Endowment
for the Arts for reaching a global audience at Habitit II in Istanbul, Turkey.
In addition, David Jakupca has been nominated by Ohio Congressman Louis Stokes
and Ms. lone Biggs for the 1997 National Medal of Arts Award in the
category of Environmental Art. David and his wife, Renate,
were U.S. Cultural Ambassadors to EXPO2000 the World Exposition
held in Hannover, Germany in the year 2000.

ENDANGERED SPACES - A lifelong commitment to Lake Erie started in 1980
focusing on the disappearing shoreline to commercial development. Whiskey Island is
highlighted with original paintings, sculpture, photographs and handmade book
- Reflections on Whiskey Island.

Encouraging and recognizing the creative accomplishments
of Ohio’s native Sons and daughters, the Ohioana Library in
Columbus, Ohio is creating the most complete public record
of David Jakupca and the Environmental Art Movement; maintaining
and preserving a permanent record and disseminating information
so future generations can enjoy and learn from.

As part of the 2003 Ohio State Bicentennial Celebration,
The ARK In Berea, Ohio was registered as on Official Historical Landmark.

ARK in Berea Community Fire Pit

PARADISE FOUND:
Around the mid 1970s, a distinctly off-center collection of counter culture hippies, agrarians, artists, musicians, anarchists, philosophers, immigrants, nudists, students, writers, and some vegetarians started to assemble an informal Salon around a primitive campfire in the woods up the banks of the Rocky River in Berea, Ohio. These Salons by the campfire, were hosted by the Jakupca's partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation followed by action.

David and Renate Jakupca, welcomed into their woods these social refugees, some staying for only a day, some for years, but always around the Fire. Meanwhile, the campfire reputation as an avant-garde cultural center continued to grow, drawing the likes of sculptor John Puskas, adventurer poet Daniel Thompson, activist Ione Biggs, and environmentalist John Perera, writer Barb Sherwood, socialite Pat Hitt as well as other members of the international community. This fringe establishment became a lay convent for free thinkers and international intellectuals seeking connections between humankind, nature, culture and the universe, where, later in 1987,  David and Renate created the 'Theory of Iceality on Environmental Arts" and formed the International Center for Environmental Arts (ICEA) organization (http//:www.TheICEA.com)

The Science behind Peace and Global Harmony is the "Theory of Iceality on Environmental Arts". Developed in 1987, it is the practical study on the aesthetics of the relationship between Humans and their Environment through Arts and Culture, ultimately promoting an effective sustainable global Culture of Peace between all Living Things ~ Human, Plant and Wildlife Kingdoms! The incorporation of the rights of flora and fauna in a "Universal Peace Equation" is the first major change in achieving a sustainable global Culture Peace on Earth in over 2000 Years. http://theicea.com/page22

Historic ARK in Berea  (http://theicea.com/page4)

One of the main benefits of the campfire was transformation. Another was connection. From ancient times, the simple act of gathering with others around a fire changes you…..and your way of thinking. There’s something about the Fire that connects us with the Universe around us in a way nothing else can. You bring your distractions, confusion and problems to the Fire, and somehow they burn away and become a little clearer and may even resolve of their own accord. Others may be able to assist you or you may be of help to others in clearing up everyday distractions. You stop pushing against life and begin, and like a small stone in the river below, to let life move you to the place where you belong..
Community Roast at the ARK in Berea
Our camp fire was carved out of the side of the cliff where a little ledge had developed and formed with field stones found in the area. For years, it was used primarily as a camp fire and a part time cooking fire. It did not take long to figure out that the need to re-think this idea --- a campfire needs to be hot and blazing to work well while a cooking fire works better when there is no flame just hot coals. Also, in the wintertime, when the campfire was blazing, the people in front were roasting hot while the people behind them were freezing cold. Worse yet, if someone up front moved to much, they pushed the people behind them back until rear people would start to fall off the ledge. Sometimes usually when alcohol was involved they simply fell off by themselves.

After a few years, a new safer fire pit site was built further up and the old one became primarily a cooking fire. ‘Anything with a bone’ was usually on the roasting menu, and the weekly Stone Soup meals could include almost anything…even road kill. But over the years, the sides of the mud cliff kept on falling down and it became too dangerous to walk down the path to the Main Scenic Route MSR. So, cement steps were added, a retaining wall was built and now after 37 years, and in 2013 the ole’ campfire pit is being made into a cement puddle. A new wood burning stove will have to be built for cooking, maybe something along the lines that Alex Bevan uses.

Canadians to Honor American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca with Canadian Peace Award.

American Cultural Ambassadors David and Renate Jakupca will be awarded a Canadian Peace Award for the Windsor Peace Stone of the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM) [1] during their visit to Windsor next month, according to a Canadian press release. The Windsor Peace Stone is slated to be the cornerstone of the coast-to-coast 'Trans Canadian Peace Trail”.

The Jakupca's will be the first Americans to receive the honor, which was announced by a coalition of Canadian peace organizations on Monday, August 12, 2013. The Canadian Award is a CRISTAL d'ALBRET PAX Peace Plate by GILBERT POILLERAT. The 9" Peace plate is very heavy crystal glass with beautiful molded detailing. It's of a dove, holding an olive branch surrounded by children and is a fitting testament to the mission of the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM).  It comes in a cloth lined presentation box with Plaque of Remembrance.

"David and Renate Jakupca are true friends of the people of Canada, and they have been since the beginning of the formation of The International Center for Environmental Arts in 1987,” Sharon Demming, spokeswoman of the Peace Coalition, stated in the release. Canadian Rick Coranado of Great lakes United and the Clean Water Alliance presented ICEA with an environmental award in 1992 for the exhibit, 'Endangered Spaces' that first addressed the concerns about the dangers of over development of the Great Lakes shoreline.

“As Founders of ICEA and American Cultural Ambassadors,  David and Renate Jakupca have stood with Canadians in times of crisis and peace," she continued. "During their time as Ambassadors they have made a unique contribution to the Canadians, both through further strengthening the strategic cooperation between the countries and through the joint development of environment and technology to promote a sustainable culture of peace for all Living Things.”

The statement went on to praise the Jakupca's as a “symbol of democratic values” who “exemplifies the spirit of iceality and opportunity for all living things to live in a peaceful global society.”

The award also follows Jakupca's receiving the prestigious 'Freedom Award' by the American Nationalities Movement Organization in 2012.

The Jakupca's will receive the award as part of the dedication of the Windsor Peace Stone located for the 2013 International Children's Games in Windsor-Essex, located at the new 77 million Dollar Windsor Aquatic Center.

This Symbol of Living Peace was the subject sculpture.  This project was initiated in cooperation with the United Nations 2000 Culture of Peace Program and organized in support of the UN Decade of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World and the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.   http://www.theicea.com/page5

Windsor Peace Stone of the Worlds Children Peace Monument (WCPM)

Message from the City of Windsor
Mayor Francis As residents of Windsor, we stand together proudly as your hosts for the 2013 International Children's Games. Windsor is one of the most diverse communities in Canada, home to 100 different heritages from around the globe. Your participation at the ICG enriches our diversity of traditions, as we couldn't be happier that you've chosen to visit.

Three years ago, we began our ICG journey with only a dream, in a small hotel in Athens, Greece. Our vision, to welcome the world to Windsor, the community we know and love, was in its infancy. Fourteen of Windsor's youth ambassadors joined me to tell the world why our hometown was the next home for ICG.

From that fateful day, we've been immersed in the wonder, the amazement, the camaraderie, and the pride of these games. Windsor has now fielded teams in three Summer Games and one Winter Games.

Over the six days of competition, you'll experience the premier sports facilities that our community has to offer. You'll enjoy the near-urban wilderness charm of Mic Mac Park, the McHugh Soccer Park next to the Ganatchio Trail, and, most visibly, the pride of our community, the new Family Aquatic Complex. We know that you'll enjoy it, and will be the lasting legacy of these games.

While you're here, enjoy all that our city and region have to offer. We're one mile across the Detroit River from our good neighbours in the City of Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. We're a single day of travel from half of the population of the entire continent. We have an incredible assortment of tourism services and cultural attractions with the city and in its backyard.

Within 1,200 volunteers support this event who we cannot thank enough for their service, ICG athletes and out-of-town visitors will get a worry-free introduction to our community. Thank you!

Message from the County of Essex
Warden Bain On behalf of Essex County Council ad the seven local Essex County municipalities, I welcome all athletes and coaches, visitors and volunteers to the 2013 International Children's Games.

Essex County is so very proud to collaborate with the City of Windsor in hosting this year's Games.

Determination and commitment are the hallmarks of these Games. Be it athletes in training to deliver their best possible performances, to the local organizing team planning and coordinating the athletic and entertainment events, to the volunteers preparing to lend a hand to ensure everything runs smoothly, all involved are eager to make the 2013 Games the most successful to date.

The rich cultural diversity of our region will no doubt make one and all feel right at home, whether you are visiting for the first time or are a lifelong resident.

Unparalleled hospitality is certain to greet you. I know the experience of the Games is one that will remain with you for years to come.

There are friendships to be developed, relationships to be forged and memories to be created as the world comes to Windsor-Essex.

We are honoured to be your host and look forward to offering an unforgettable celebration of sport and camaraderie. Best wishes to all athletes, visitors, and participants.

(Source: The Windsor Star) No sooner had her slim, torpedo-shaped body hit the water for the first time inside Windsor's new Family Aquatic Complex than competitive swimmer Leili Tilvaldyeva knew she was lapping toward a personal best. "It's a fast pool ... the water just carries you through," said the 16-year-old competitor with the Windsor Essex Swim Team. "There will be records here," said Tilvaldyeva.

There appeared little doubt of the record-breaking potential among the athletes granted first access Thursday to the natatorium, the competitive portion of the city's new $78-million aquatic facility. Two local swim clubs held an inaugural meet to test the waters ahead of the International Children's Games in two weeks. Read more.
