Message from the City of Windsor
As
residents of Windsor, we stand together proudly as your hosts for the
2013 International Children's Games. Windsor is one of the most diverse
communities in Canada, home to 100 different heritages from around the
globe. Your participation at the ICG enriches our diversity of
traditions, as we couldn't be happier that you've chosen to visit.
Three
years ago, we began our ICG journey with only a dream, in a small hotel
in Athens, Greece. Our vision, to welcome the world to Windsor, the
community we know and love, was in its infancy. Fourteen of Windsor's
youth ambassadors joined me to tell the world why our hometown was the
next home for ICG.
From
that fateful day, we've been immersed in the wonder, the amazement, the
camaraderie, and the pride of these games. Windsor has now fielded teams
in three Summer Games and one Winter Games.
Over
the six days of competition, you'll experience the premier sports
facilities that our community has to offer. You'll enjoy the near-urban
wilderness charm of Mic Mac Park, the McHugh Soccer Park next to the
Ganatchio Trail, and, most visibly, the pride of our community, the new
Family Aquatic Complex. We know that you'll enjoy it, and will be the
lasting legacy of these games.
While
you're here, enjoy all that our city and region have to offer. We're one
mile across the Detroit River from our good neighbours in the City of
Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. We're a single day of travel from half of the
population of the entire continent. We have an incredible assortment of
tourism services and cultural attractions with the city and in its
backyard.
Within
1,200 volunteers support this event who we cannot thank enough for their
service, ICG athletes and out-of-town visitors will get a worry-free
introduction to our community. Thank you!

meet at the Family Aquatic Complex (JASON KRYK/The Windsor Star) |
(Source: The Windsor
Star) No sooner had her slim, torpedo-shaped body hit the water for the
first time inside Windsor's new Family Aquatic Complex than competitive
swimmer Leili Tilvaldyeva knew she was lapping toward a personal best.
"It's a fast pool ... the water just carries you through," said the
16-year-old competitor with the Windsor Essex Swim Team. "There will be
records here," said Tilvaldyeva.
There appeared little
doubt of the record-breaking potential among the athletes granted first
access Thursday to the natatorium, the competitive portion of the city's
new $78-million aquatic facility. Two local swim clubs held an
inaugural meet to test the waters ahead of the International Children's
Games in two weeks. Read more.

Hi and Welcome to Windsor:
Here is something you might be interested in if you want to make friends and want to build up a community of creative collaborators and facilitate connections.
The WINDSOR PEACE STONE SCULPTURE is sitting in a city storage yard, and it needs a grassroots effort to get it erected in a city park. The person who was behind this project is very sick and no longer able to carry out the project. This was to be the cornerstone of the TRANS CANADIAN PEACE TRAIL that would put WCPM Peace Stones in every city and village park in Canada .
I am seeking creative people in Windsor that don't sleep much, are always creating, and looking for others to get together to make art, music, movies, etc. That are feeling a little stagnant even though they have numerous projects in the works. People who always want to do more whether it be writing, performing, or just being artistic, real, and creative. If you're a looking for people that will inspire you and you will hopefully inspire them, drop me a line. If your interest is piqued, shoot me an not so I can send you the information. Thanks Renate Jakupca
