Unveiling of the winners of the Public Prize for Peace, 2018 edition
This much desired moment of individuals and communities in search of hope and peace has finally arrived!
The public this year presented a total of 19 candidates from 10
countries: four candidates from India, three from Pakistan, three from
Colombia, and other candidates from Argentina, Cameroon, , Mexico, Peru,
Sierra Leona, Trinidad and Tobago, United States. Once again, the
origin of the candidates is different, as are the different ways that
people find to express their deepest desire to live in peace. The Public Peace Prize (PPP) is awarded to 11 finalists who have fulfilled all the conditions to become laureates. The PPP recognizes all of their efforts and their undeniable contribution to peace in their countries.
What’s new in the 2018 edition?
2018 Laureates who transform their community
The PPP congratulates and notes the enthusiasm, courage,
perseverance, dedication and determination of men and women, human
rights defenders, environmentalists, artists committed to peace, media
initiatives such as community radio, newspaper or the virtual platform. The PPP congratulates and recognizes the laureates as artisans and peacemakers who carry out their work to respond to various issues in a context of war or armed conflict, political violence, poverty, economic marginalization, social exclusion. They focus their actions on groups of women and children who are victims of violence, physically disabled, vulnerable groups, marginalized and excluded, so that they can access a dignified life, in tolerance, compassion, solidarity, mutual aid and social inclusion. These artisans and peacemakers work to promote education, non-violence and the rights of women and children beyond social and cultural prejudices. They are also aimed at resolving conflicts, building peace and making cities safer and protecting the environment.
The PPP also congratulates them because they have succeeded in developing particular approaches that integrate justice, economics, culture and technology in one way or another to meet the challenges of today’s societies. They bring with them a world of tolerance and harmony that builds relationships between men and women on gender equality, respect, non-violence and non-discrimination. Finally, these solidarity and collective initiatives become lighthouses that mobilize hope and build the future in a culture of peace.
The mission of the Public Prize for Peace
The PPP honors and celebrates the work of an individual or initiative
that has profoundly contributed to the culture of peace. It does not
grant the winners any monetary compensation but the will to make them
better recognized on a planetary scale, through the social networks. In
addition, a plaque in the image of the representation on the web will be
given in memory of this distinction. The PPP would like to thank everyone who participated in this edition for their openness to the new approach that is more collaborative than competitive. PPP is pleased to offer visibility to all peace initiatives, whether known or not. The only objective of this prize is to make known a maximum of initiatives and artisans of peace to the general public, and this beyond any form of competition!
